From their website: The Groove Tramps Trio is just that, a trio. Guitar, bass and drums–three simple instruments coming together to create magic. Joe, on guitars and vocals, is no stranger to the club. Hailing from Colorado where they have made a name for themselves, they have been quoted in the Denver Examiner as a “smooth mix of Blues, Jazz and Swing [fitting] perfectly with the chill atmosphere.” Melanie Owen, vocals & bass is Influenced by singers like Big Mama Thornton, Etta James & Janis Joplin, writers like John Prine, Kris Kristofferson & Joni Mitchel, and bluesman like T-Bone Walker, Howlin’ Wolf & Muddy Waters, Melanie plays from-the-soul blues and other stories. Her love of singing comes from sitting in church next to her dad, learning the bass lines and harmonies to old hymns. A drummer, not yet named, will accompany them tonight.
Paul Green is a dynamite vocalist and a commanding harp player. His band always cooks with gas and heats things up fast! Paul has been a performing musician since his teens. Both an award winning blues artist and a jazz vocalist, he was inducted into the Washington Blues Society Hall Of Fame, and the annual Best Blues Harmonica Award was named after him by that same organization. His most recent CD released on the Pony Boy Jazz label, Creativity, is made up entirely of his original lyrics set to jazz instrumental melodies, a style known as Vocalese. His unique vocal and harmonica style have won him praise from both fans and fellow musicians alike. He continues to appear in clubs and perform studio work throughout the Puget Sound region. He’s bringing with him Chris Morton/keys, Phil sparks/bass, & Mark Ivester/drums. No cover at this cool and funky Ballard club. Marcia will be cooking up something great, so come hungry! Proceeds go to the MS Society.
